April 17, 1831, letter from John Marsh at Prairie du Chien, to D.P. Campbell, president of the Mississippi Land Company of New York, responding to an invitation by A. Lay (cartographer Amos Lay?) to assist the firm in its efforts to acquire the Carver tract (lands in Minnesota and Wisconsin supposed to have been granted to Jonathan Carver in 1767 by the Western Sioux).
